Weight matters and children

Ballerinas' Legs in a RowAn article on the BBC website recently caught my eye ‘10 ways to talk to your child about weight’. The first sentence grabbed my attention:

Education secretary Michael Gove’s nine-year-old daughter has been withdrawn from her ballet classes over fears she was becoming worried about her weight…

The article went on to say that this nine-year-old refused to eat on the day of her ballet classes and insisted on wearing a smaller leotard.

It is very concerning to hear about young children becoming so worried about their weight. When the issue is  related to ballet or dance classes then it is of great concern for dance teachers. Have you noticed weight concerns amongst your young dance students?
