Update – new short CPD online courses start April

MP900439364For a variety of reasons a year has passed since mentioning the new online CPD for Dance Teachers short courses that I am working on. I won’t bore you with why this has happened but I do want to thank everyone who has contacted me and shown such great interest in these courses This is very encouraging. At long last these new short CPD courses are going to get underway on Friday 17 April 2015 with the following two courses: Aspects of Anatomy for Dance Teachers: exploring basic shoulder anatomy and function in dance. In dance we tend to talk about placing and moving the arms and not focusing on the shoulder joint where the movement occurs. So, in this course, we will explore the basic anatomy of this vital joint and then focus on how it functions in dance. You will consider ways of incorporating teaching methods that aim to improve shoulder alignment and movement into your own teaching practice. Learning and Teaching Dance: tension and rigidity in dance First we will reflect on how tension and rigidity are often taught or encouraged as a way of achieving control in dance. This might relate to a rigid and tense posture or use of tension and tightness to support the arms or perhaps tensing the feet when dancing. Then we will explore methods and approaches relating to your own dance teaching practices that should help to develop control in your students’ technique and performance without relying on tension and rigidity. Both courses will be running twice starting: Friday 17 April 2015 and Friday 12 June 2015

  • Duration: each course is 3 weeks  and include weekly online lessons with practical assignments to complete
  • Cost of each course: £49 per person to be paid in advance
  • A free Certificate of Completion will be sent to you upon completion of your course
  • It is essential during the course that you have regular access to a computer to get access to the course material, receive and send emails and be able to download email attachments (PDF files)

Courses are suitable for dance teachers in all dance genres. You’ll be encouraged to reflect on your own teaching practice in relation to the course content. You will get a tutorial feedback email for completed assignments. Booking your place on a course There are limited places on the courses to enable me to give participating teachers individual feedback. So please book early to be sure of your place. Payment needs to be made at time of booking. You can book on one or both courses – please remember if booking on both courses starting on the same date that you have enough time to devote to studying two topics together. If you prefer to study a single topic at a time then you can book one course for the April data and the other for the June date. Payment You can pay by cheque (Sterling) or by BACS. Please contact me via my website (link on the right) for details. Payment to be  received in full before being accepted on any course. Further courses You can the blog regularly for updates about other short CPD courses in the months to come . Or why not sign up to receive notifications of new blog posts when published? I am also looking to offer half and one day teacher workshops in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Please let me know if this would be of interest to you.
