This free session for dance teachers is an opportunity to do something for your own wellbeing. Take an hour with Sho to explore enjoyable energising movement (standing) and some mindful relaxation (seated or lying down). This is a session for you to enjoy, relax and focus on feeling good – something that we can all benefit from.
This free session is on Monday 18 January 2021 from 10am -11am (UK time) Zoom link – either email Sho for a link or leave a message in the comment facility below this post and a link will be emailed to you.
Looking back over 2020 highlights the challenges that many dance teachers have faced. Talking with fellow teachers during this year has confirmed how we have had to learn new skills – Zoom being something that so many have become familiar with for meetings, classes and other teaching. Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that we would be doing much of our work online via Zoom?
To encourage dance teachers to do something for their own wellbeing, I offered a weekly free Mindful Relaxation session from March to July. These sessions were well received and from feedback, teachers found them very helpful. I hope that some of what we explored during these sessions is still in use and proving helpful.
With all the changes and uncertainties relating to having studios open or teaching in person, it has been a tough year. But dance teachers have shone through with their willingness to adapt and adjust their teaching and dance content to suit online teaching, showing the abilities of teachers to make the best of the situation they find themselves in. A huge well done to dance teachers everywhere for all their efforts to continue to support their students and keep their businesses running.
A big thank you to dance teachers around the world (you know who you are) who have taken the opportunity during 2020 to add to their knowledge, skills and understanding through taking one or more of my Short Online CPD Courses for Dance Teachers. I always enjoy working with you on these courses and witnessing the enthusiasm and sheer amount of development that happens over a short three week period. I look forward to working with you in 2021.If you haven’t joined us on one of my courses then perhaps you will in 2021.
The Embodiment Conference is running at the moment and finishes on 25 October. You can watch online presentations and sessions live or for a day or two afterwards for free.
The conference is organised by a company in Brighton and Hove so just along the coast from me in Sussex, UK. There are 1000 + speakers at the conference covering a range of topics including Dance & Creativity; Movement & Anatomy; Keynote and Meditation and Breath Work. Speakers come from across the globe. I have watched and listened to some great sessions this past few days. I love Tom Myers work on Anatomy Trains and I have had his book of the same name for many years. His session on the Anatomy of Vitality gives a top embodiment tip of ‘stay curious’. I couldn’t agree more. Being curious has to be one of the best things I was taught about and encouraged to be. Being curious is such a wonderful way to approach dance teaching and learning. For as dance teachers we are also learning too.

We have been doing these free mindful relaxation for dance teacher, sessions since April and now they are coming to an end. This is because dance teachers are getting ready to get back into their studios and venues to teach once again.
It has been lovely doing these weekly sessions and I hope if you have joined us at any point along the way that you have enjoyed them too.
Good luck to all dance teachers getting back into the swing of classes and coping with all the changes that are required.
Don’t forget there is still time to book a place on the next short online courses beginning in August. Bookings close on Monday 27 July 2020.
If you want to join Sho tomorrow morning – Friday 12 June at 10am (UK time) for 30-40 minutes of Mindful Relaxation for Dance Teachers, leave a comment by clicking on the comment bubble at the top of this post or the comment facility below the post and you will be sent the Zoom link for you to join the session.
This relaxing session gives you time to focus on yourself, something that dance teachers don’t always find time to do.
