American anatomist, Gil Hedley offers this lovely clip explaining anatomical units – vs – functional units. I think this short clip is really useful for dance teachers to help us understand more about the muscular system and it functions and how they are not functioning in isolation.

Dance teachers and 2020

Looking back over 2020 highlights the challenges that many dance teachers have faced. Talking with fellow teachers during this year has confirmed how we have had to learn new skills – Zoom being something that so many have become familiar with for meetings, classes and other teaching. Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that we would be doing much of our work online via Zoom?
To encourage dance teachers to do something for their own wellbeing, I offered a weekly free Mindful Relaxation session from March to July. These sessions were well received and from feedback, teachers found them very helpful. I hope that some of what we explored during these sessions is still in use and proving helpful.
With all the changes and uncertainties relating to having studios open or teaching in person, it has been a tough year. But dance teachers have shone through with their willingness to adapt and adjust their teaching and dance content to suit online teaching, showing the abilities of teachers to make the best of the situation they find themselves in. A huge well done to dance teachers everywhere for all their efforts to continue to support their students and keep their businesses running.
A big thank you to dance teachers around the world (you know who you are) who have taken the opportunity during 2020 to add to their knowledge, skills and understanding through taking one or more of my Short Online CPD Courses for Dance Teachers. I always enjoy working with you on these courses and witnessing the enthusiasm and sheer amount of development that happens over a short three week period. I look forward to working with you in 2021.If you haven’t joined us on one of my courses then perhaps you will in 2021.
The next group of Short Online CPD Courses for Dance Teachers are available to book now.
Here’s wishing you and yours very good health and happiness in 2021.
Warmest wishes, Sho

Season’s Greetings
A big thank you to all whom I worked with in 2018. Warm wishes for the festive season.
The new year is just around the corner now. If you are thinking about doing some CPD at the beginning of the year then take a look at the courses coming up. Do remember to check the closing date for course bookings so you don’t miss out on the course/s that you want to take.
Don’t forget we have two brand new courses on the January – March 2019 list.
Enjoy whatever you are doing over the holiday season and I look forward to a new year of courses in 2019. I hope you will join me on a CPD course soon.
Warmest wishes

November courses – have you booked your place?
This is a quick reminder to say that bookings for the November courses close tomorrow, 31 October. If you are thinking of joining us for Mindfulness in Dance Teaching or the Proprioception course then you still have time to book your place online by the end of 31 October 2017 (UK time).
These short online CPD courses only take 10 hours of your time over the three weeks of the course. Completition certifcates include the number of hours and date of competition (the last date of your course). Dance teachers from around the world have successfully completed a variety of short online CPD courses with me since I introduced them in April 2015. During this short period of time course participants have included dance teachers just starting out, through to very highly experienced teachers who have been working in the dance industry for decades. As the weekly email tutorials enable the course to be personalised and tailored to suit your specific dance teaching practice, they are meaningful for your practice and not just in a general way.
If you are new to these courses why not take one in November and see how you can enhance your knowledge, skills and understanding in topics that you might be revising or are new to, and want to explore and find out how to incorporate them into your teaching.
If you have already taken one or more of my short online CPD courses then are you ready to take another course?
Thank you for considering these courses. If you are taking one or both of the November courses then I look forward to working with you then.
